SAMANTHA Ronson, ex-girlfriend of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan, is the subject of a criminal investigation about her bulldog allegedly killing a smaller dog and injuring its owner.
Meanwhile the British-born DJ revealed she is "incredibly sad," about the incident.
Police received a 911 call Monday reporting that a dog had attacked a smaller dog and its female owner. The person who called 911 said it was a pit bull, but witnesses later said it was a bulldog.
Ronson is the owner of a bulldog named Cadillac, and police said the home address given for the dog corresponded to Ronson's apartment.
The smaller dog's owner suffered minor injuries.
Authorities will attempt to determine the cause of death for Tiger, the three-pound (1.4kg) Maltese killed in the attack, in the investigation. Ronson was reportedly sleeping when the attack occurred.
Animal Control authorities told TMZ the investigation could take two to three months.
Cadillac had only been home from a dog-socialization training camp for a few days before the attack. Ronson sent the dog to the three-week program after it bit another dog in Ronson's apartment building.
Neighbors told TMZ that Cadillac had also bitten a person in the building.
Posting to Twitter on Monday night, Ronson expressed remorse without saying Cadillac was responsible for the attack.
"There is absolutely nothing I can say that will alter one minute of today, nothing," she wrote. "I feel incredibly sad and wish I could offer more than condolences, unfortunately there are no words to describe how sorry I am."
Ronson and Lohan split up in April 2009 after two years of high-profile, on-again, off-again dating. The two were seen together shortly before Lohan went to jail for 14 days for violating terms of her probation related to her 2007 DUI conviction.
