Old habits die hard: Lindsay Lohan spotted at NYC club after filming sobriety-endorsing VMA skit

Well, that didn't take long.

Just one day after Lindsay Lohan filmed her sobriety-endorsing VMA guest spot with Chelsea Handler, the party-prone star was seen back in the NYC nightlife, according to UsMagazine.com.

Fresh out of rehab, Lohan, 24, was reportedly spotted hanging out at New York hotspot Boom Boom Room until the early hours of the night of September 11.

"She's telling everyone she didn't go out," a source told the mag about the actress. "We're like, 'Lindsay, people saw you there!'"

A witness at the club commented, "It looked like she didn't want to be noticed."

Lohan seems to be reverting back to her old partying ways despite just having been released from her court-ordered post-jail treatment at UCLA's Neurophysciatric Hospital on August 24. The actress completed 22 days of rehab, following a 14-day stint behind bars for violating probation in her back-to-back 2007 DUI cases.

"It's the same old cycle of lying and denials," an insider told Us of the "Machete" star, who has been in and out of rehab four times.

Friends of Lohan seem concerned that despite all the rehabilitation and controversy, she has not broken the vicious cycle.

"Everything that she went through seems not to have changed her a bit," the pal said. "It's sad."

Lindsay Lohan Doctor's under investigation.

The Medical Board of California is investigating the doctors who prescribed a variety of medications to Lindsay Lohan.

An attorney for the actress' father, Michael Lohan, sent a letter to the California attorney general in July asking for an investigation into "the unscrupulous doctors [who] overprescribe medications..."

TMZ.com reported that the attorney general referred the matter to state medical board, which launched an investigation.

"The Medical Board is investigating and Michael and I are cooperating with them," Bloom confirmed to the website.

The board would not confirm that any investigation was taking place, according to E! Online, as the oversight body is not permitted to publicly disclose any pending cases until charges are pressed and the investigation became a matter of public record.

Such investigations usually take several months, the report states.

Lohan was released early from a 90-day court-ordered rehab stint last month. TMZ said doctors at the UCLA rehab facility believe the actress was misdiagnosed with - and therefore wrongfully prescribed medication for - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Prior to entering UCLA, according to the website, Lohan had various prescriptions, including ones for Dilaudid, Adderall, Nexium, Zoloft, Trazodone and Ambien.

Lindsay Lohan Did MTV's VMAs, but Why Didn't Paris Hilton?

How did Lindsay Lohan end up in Chelsea Handler's opening skit of last night's MTV Video Music Awards?

Source tells us that MTV producers pitched the idea to LiLo last week.…

She signed on after she consulted with manager Larry Rudolph.

Lohan agreed to describe herself as a "drunk" in the skit as long as show host Handler said, "You turned your life around, maybe I can, too." Lohan had never met the E!'s late-night chat show host before they taped the segment on Friday, but we're told she was well aware that Handler has been pretty harsh about her and the rest of the Lohan bunch.

As we were the first to tell you, Lohan's appearance was to be a surprise, but buzz began after she was spotted she Handler were spotted together on Friday at the Nokia Theater Live. (Lohan vamoosed after the taping, and headed back to Long Island to spend the weekend with her family.)

Who else did producers try to get for the show? Paris Hilton!

"They really wanted her, but Paris was too scared ," a source said. "She was afraid of what Chelsea would say about her. She thought Chelsea would rip her apart."

Hilton is no stranger to being the target of an MTV awards show host's crude jokes. In June 2007, she was in the audience at the Movie Awards when Sarah Silverman took a swipe at her then upcoming jail sentence, saying guards were going to make her feel more comfortable by painting the bars like penises. "I just worry she's going to break her teeth on those things," Silverman cracked.

Just hours later, Hilton turned herself in to begin her infamous jail sentence.

The hotel heiress was recently arrested in Las Vegas for possession of cocaine, allegedly telling cops it didn't belong to her and she thought it was gum when she first saw it.

Avoiding Handler at the VMAs was probably the smartest decision Hilton has made in a long time.

P.S.: Hilton's one-time maybe makeout partner, Hard Times of RJ Berger star Paul Iacono, is staying clear of her latest run-in with the law. "I'm a virgin and I've never tasted alcohol in my life, so all of those vices are foreign me," he said, while keeping a straight face on the VMAs red white carpet. "But I wish her the best and I hope she's doing well."

Dr Drew: 'Lindsay Lohan on the right path'

Rex Features
Dr Drew Pinksy has said that Lindsay Lohan is on the right path to straighten out her life following a recent stint in rehab.

The physician told OK that he is convinced the Machete star is committed to staying sober after completing a stay in UCLA Medical Center.

"Yes, I think she has finally made the right turn," he said. "I am very hopeful that she gets a lot of help and a lot of work."

Pinsky added that parents of teenagers should view Lohan's struggles as a cautionary tale when trying to keep their own children away from drugs and alcohol.

He noted: "You look at the behaviour of young Hollywood and start seeing judgement and disdain and that's not a very healthy outlook… Focus on your own kids and talk to them about what they are watching out there."

Lohan was released from a court-mandated rehab last month after serving more than three weeks in the facility due to a probation violation.

MTV Video Music Awards: Lindsay Lohan Channels Pee Wee Herman

lindsaypeewee_post.jpg

MTV

Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards lacked the excitement of last year's Taylor Swift-Kanye West "Ima Let You Finish" debacle. But if there was one moment last night that made it to the water cooler this morning, it was Lindsay Lohan's surprise Pee Wee Herman moment at the opening of the show.

Making a cameo in host Chelsea Handler's taped opening segment—her first televised appearance since spending 13 days in jail and three weeks in court-ordered rehab for a DUI offense. In the VMA skit, she confronts Handler, who is holding a cup, backstage, asking if the host if she's been drinking. After Handler denies it, Lohan asks, "Really, then why is your ankle bracelet going off?" a wink to a June incident in which Lohan's own alcohol monitoring braceletwent off at a MTV party. "Oh that just means that my table's ready at the Cheesecake Factory," Handler answers, with Lohan shooting back, "Do you think anyone wants to work with a drunk? Take it from me, they don't."

Back in 1991, Paul Reubens—the actor behind the Pee Wee character—was arrested for masturbating in public. His show, Pee Wee's Playhouse, was pulled from syndication while Reubens himself became a mainstay of tabloid covers and late night talk show monologues. As the girl with a near perpetual target on her back as the butt of comedians' jokes, it's a situation that Lohan certainly knows well.

At that year's VMAs, Reubens shocked the audience when he appeared on-stage decked out in full Pee Wee costume, walking up to the microphone, and asking dryly, "Heard any good jokes lately?" As MTV recaps, "It wasn't a comeback or an apology—it was just a guy taking back control."

With 9 million viewers and an even bigger reach in the pop culture conversation, the VMAs are the go-to venue for addressing controversy and staging comebacks. There's a long history of celebrities using the show as the platform for addressing rumors, with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston tackling rumors of a feud by presenting an award in the same Vera Wang gown as another example. In the case of Lohan and Herman, by showing they are in on the joke, they actually make it easier to be taken seriously. Their self-awareness takes control of the discussion about their troubles, shifting the tone from sad, pathetic, and scandalous to tongue-in-cheek, positive, and reformative.

Reuben's VMA appearance was the first step towards his career revival. In addition to guest stints over the years in shows like 30 Rock, he's currently staging The Pee Wee Herman Showfor a run on Broadway in October. Some are wondering whether Lohan's cameo will do similar things for her career. Entertainment Weekly writes, "There's nothing like a Hollywood recovery story, and Linds took the first of those other 12 Steps—the steps toward pop cultural redemption—with her cameo." Could this be her Pee Wee Herman moment?
