Lindsay Lohan's release from jail imminent, but she may head straight to rehab program

LYNWOOD, Calif. - Tinseltown's most infamous inmate was on the brink of release Sunday and headed to an exclusive rehab program.

Lindsay Lohan's expected discharge window opened at 12:01 a.m. Sunday with throngs of media awaiting her switch from a bright orange slammer suit to new digs at Morningside Recovery near the beach in Orange County.

The "Mean Girls" star began her 90-day jail term with the expectation she'd have a 24-hour break before reporting to 90 days of inpatient rehab. But Judge Marsha Revel changed her ruling late last week and ordered Lohan to treatment immediately, a source told the Daily News.

Lohan's lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley visited the jail early Sunday and said she hadn't yet seen the new order.

"I'm hoping that she'll have some time to spend with her family before she goes to rehab," Chapman Holley said. "She's tried to comply with all the court's orders."

The lawyer said her fingers were crossed Lohan would get out within hours and that the Long Island-bred actress was "doing well."

Morningside Recovery wasn't on the list of facilities recommended by two court-appointed doctors, but Judge Revel chose it to treat Lohan for bipolar disorder as well as addiction to methamphetamines and opiates, TMZ reported Sunday.

That report could not be independently confirmed, but an earlier probation report said Lohan had been taking the amphetamine-based prescription drug Adderall - which is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - for "as long as she can remember."

It listed her other prescriptions as the antidepressants Zoloft and trazadone and the powerful opiate Dilaudid for dental pain.

The report, which detailed Lohan's recent court-ordered drug testing, said she tested positive for Adderall and Dilaudid on June 7, less than 24 hours after her alcohol monitoring anklet sounded a silent alarm she'd been drinking.

Revel asked the court-appointed doctors to report on the dangers of mixing alcohol with Lohan's meds.

Lohan landed in jail July 20 after Revel said the actress violated probation in her 2007 DUI case.

The judge mentioned the cocaine involved of both of Lohan's DUI busts when she levied the punishment for missing mandatory alcohol education classes.
